The Chief Architect is an executive architecture role with high visibility and impact in the company and in the overall market. The Chief Architect will be a key member of the R&D organization, helping to ensure the success of the webMethods Suite overseeing the architecture of the products as well as the crosscutting capabilities that span the entire suite. The Chief Architect will have two main responsibilities: (1) leading the platform architecture team and working with product management and engineers to create the architectural vision and ensure the architectural integrity of the webMethods suite as a whole; (2) acting as a technical evangelist and platform architect with the field organization, customers and prospects.
This position involves significant interaction with teams in various corporate offices in Germany, the US, Bulgaria and India. Regular travel to other corporate office locations is required.
Essential Job Functions
' The Chief Architect will intuitively understand the problems customers face. In particular, the Chief Architect will understand the unique challenges in deploying mission-critical infrastructure software at a very large scale across diverse and potentially geographically distributed environments. The Chief Architect will design solutions that address these challenges in a robust manageable fashion without overly burdening those with less complex deployment scenarios.
' The Chief Architect is a technically focused individual that works with Product Management to help drive the product roadmap. This technologist will also help to define the forward looking innovations for the next generation of releases. He/she will contribute to implementing the future direction of webMethods products.
' The Chief Architect will lead the architecture team to influence the technical aspects of the product, working with developers, testers, user experience and management. The Chief Architect will work with each of the development teams to ensure the consistency of their components with respect to the overall product architecture and vision.
' As a key member of the R&D leadership team, the Architect will be able to translate product strategy into technical requirements and deliverables, to solve hard problems quickly, effectively but pragmatically, and to drive initiatives through the development teams. When difficult product-level technical decisions need making, the Chief Architect will drive the decision making process.
' Over time, the Chief Architect must develop an intimate knowledge of all aspects of the webMethods Suite and its usage patterns in customer environments. The Chief Architect will be able to describe and defend everything about webMethods suite product implementation, from architecture to external programming interfaces to coding and development methodologies.
' The Chief Architect will champion designing for scalability, security and reliability, and will be a leading advocate for engineering excellence.
' The Chief Architect will have the opportunity to be a mentor for more junior architects and engineers and help them grow both their detailed technical knowledge and overall architectural design skills.
' With an intuitive understanding of the problems customers face, the Chief Architect will educate the sales and professional services organization as well as aid them directly in meetings with customers and prospects.
Location: East-Coast/West-Coast/Seattle/Germany Minimum Position Requirements The ideal Architect candidate will have at least 8-10 years of relevant experience, which includes one or both of the following: - Senior Director or VP-level technical responsibility in delivering enterprise scale application and business process integration implementations with:
- Successful production deployments using commercial integration products
- Leadership as technical visionary for integration architecture and SOA
- Leadership as the evangelist for integration and SOA technology to a wide variety of audiences
- Senior Architect, Senior Director or VP-level technical responsibility at a commercial integration infrastructure software company
In addition, the Chief Architect will: - Be very familiar with the integration software market and the key differentiators among leading vendors
- Understand enterprise business integration products, including webMethods’ technologies
- Understand the challenges faced by IT development and operations staff in deploying large-scale integration solutions
- Have demonstrated ability to write detailed functional and technical specifications
- Possess an intimate familiarity with the complexities of enterprise infrastructure software
- Hold at least a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science or related field
